What should I measure on my scorecard?

1 min read

A business scorecard offers numerous benefits that can significantly enhance your organisation’s performance and strategic management.

It is a strategic tool used to monitor, measure, and manage a company’s performance across key areas.

Your scorecard should include a mix of activities (inputs) and targetted results (outputs). You want activity measures that you can monitor in order to not have any surprises with your results at the end of the period.

Additionally, a good scorecard will help you identify what needs to happen to make any required changed. For example, the output may be a Revenue target, but the detail may be captured by measuring the number of people sold to, the number of times they brought and the average sale value. Therefore, if you don’t hit your revenue target, you can establish why (eg you didn’t sell enough or perhaps discounted too much and therefore did not hit that average order value.

Here are the main reasons why a business would implement a scorecard:

1. Clear Alignment with Strategic Goals

2. Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

3. Drive Accountability

4. Encourage Data-Driven Decision Making

5. Identify Trends and Predict Outcomes

6. Improve Communication and Focus

7. Measure Customer and Employee Satisfaction

8. Drive Continuous Improvement

9. Enable Scalability
